Hi, I’m Janna — Welcome!

I’m a mom, wife, physical therapist, and working mom trying to figure out how to balance a career, motherhood, marriage, home, and everything else that somehow makes its way onto the never-ending to-do list.

When I’m not working, my husband and I spend most of our evenings and weekends chasing around our highly energetic toddler and doing our best to keep him happy, entertained, and—ideally—out of the emergency room.

Like so many working moms, most days I’m simply doing my best to find some kind of balance in the chaos. Some days I feel like I’ve got it together. Other days…not so much. And I’ve learned that both are part of the journey.

I created JannaMama to share the experiences, lessons, struggles, and practical things I’ve learned while navigating the early years of working motherhood.

Think of this space as part practical guide, part personal story, and occasionally part mom rant about everything that comes with trying to raise little humans while also maintaining a career and some version of a life.

Here, we’ll navigate the different stages of early working motherhood together—from working through pregnancy and planning maternity leave to returning to work, finding child care, managing a home, protecting your well-being, and balancing motherhood with your career.

Because Working Motherhood Doesn’t Come With a Manual

Every stage seems to bring a completely new set of questions.

How am I supposed to get through an entire workday when I’m exhausted and pregnant?

How much maternity leave can I actually afford to take?

How do I find child care I trust?

How am I supposed to get myself and a baby out the door every morning?

And when exactly am I supposed to find time for myself?

The answers aren’t always obvious—and figuring everything out can feel especially overwhelming when you don’t have a village nearby to lean on.

One thing I’ve learned is that much of working motherhood really is a figure-it-out-as-you-go experience.

I certainly don’t have all the answers. But I’ve learned a lot through my own experiences, research, mistakes, and plenty of trial and error. I created this blog to share those lessons and hopefully fill in some of the gaps I encountered along the way.

A Place for Everyday Working Moms

You don’t have to have everything perfectly balanced to be doing a good job.

Around here, we’re focused on finding realistic ways to make working motherhood a little easier—not creating another impossible standard to live up to.

So whether you’re here looking for practical information, encouragement, validation, a different perspective, or simply reassurance that another working mom understands the struggle, I’m glad you’re here.

Welcome to JannaMama—real life, practical help, and a little solidarity for the working motherhood journey.
